Introductory Module Expectations
“At the heart of science is an essential balance between two seemingly contradictory attitudes — an openness to new ideas, no matter how bizarre or counter intuitive, and the most ruthlessly skeptical scrutiny of all ideas, old and new. This is how deep truths are winnowed from deep nonsense. The collective enterprise of creative thinking and skeptical thinking, working together, keeps the field on track. Those two seemingly contradictory attitudes are, though, in some tension.” Carl Sagan
- Find and summarize four articles relating to a topic that you hope to pursue this year. After reading each article you should summarize what the purpose and results of the study are as well as how you can modify this research to be your focus.

- Find any YouTube video that relates to science and interests you. Give a quick summary of the scientific concepts found in the video and why they interest you.
- You will be presenting your ideas to the class as a way to introduce yourself as a researcher and what you intend to study this year in class. This will be done through Zoom live or a prerecorded video if you prefer.

- Use the document in Canvas (link to a Google Doc) to submit your document that includes links to your articles and your summaries.
- Presentations will start Monday (8/31)
